Hi there,
There was a fancy dress competition at my kids school a few months back, and I seized this opportunity to put my craftiness into use. I had the option of renting a costume for him but I decided to take the matter in my own hands.
There was a fancy dress competition at my kids school a few months back, and I seized this opportunity to put my craftiness into use. I had the option of renting a costume for him but I decided to take the matter in my own hands.
It
was nearly Christmas then and so I decided to go with the Christmas theme and
decide to make him a Christmas tree. I
looked up the internet for paper Christmas trees and found a nice way make one
of my own that I could put over my kids head.
The
body of tree was made with a huge sheet of thick paper which was cut to make a
cone. I then put this cone over my kid’s head to estimate the cutout for the
face and arms. After the cutout was made the paper cone was reinforced with
thick cardboard strips to prevent the cone from collapsing inside.
The
green layers are made with crepe paper. The paper was cut into long strips of
equal width and then gathered lightly at one end to get the frilly effect and
then pasted onto the cone. I started from the bottom and finished towards the
top.
I
made paper ornaments at home to decorate the tree and printed some pictures of
snowflakes and reindeers to decorate the tree.
The finishing touches to the tree was given by adding glitter and stars and two little gift boxes. The total cost of making this tree (not counting the prints I took) was only Rs. 60.
Time taken to complete the project 3.5 hours. I could manage only 30 minutes each day with my busy schedule so I started preparing this thing well in advance.
And the end result... which resulted in the First Prize :)
